Sixth-grade students at Memorial Middle School celebrated a major milestone this month, graduating from the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) program. The graduation ceremony recognized students for successfully completing the curriculum, which equips students with the tools to make responsible decisions, resist peer pressure, and communicate effectively.
The celebration began with a morning ceremony alongside loved ones to honor each student’s hard work and commitment over the past year. Graduates shared what they learned, spoke about how the lessons apply to their daily lives, and reflected on how the program has empowered them to make healthy choices.
Eatontown Public Schools extends its sincere gratitude to Detective Michael Sullivan for his dedication to this program and the Eatontown community. Over the past year, Detective Sullivan has built a wonderful rapport with the students, providing not only valuable education but also a familiar, friendly face representing the Eatontown Police Department.
The excitement continued with a BBQ featuring delicious treats. A special thank you goes out to our generous Eatontown community partners who made the afternoon possible: Audi of Eatontown, Land Rover of Eatontown, Dunkin', Earth Treasures, Eatontown Elks Lodge, Eatontown Fire Department, Eatontown First Aid Squad, Eatontown Lions, Eatontown PBA 305, Eatontown Police Department, Eatontown Public Schools, Lidl, Nothing Bundt Cakes (Shrewsbury), The Windmill, and P.C. Richard & Son.
Adding to the excitement, students got a front-row view of a Hackensack Meridian Health emergency helicopter. They explored the aircraft up close and asked the pilots about their roles. Back in the Memorial gym, students met K-9 officers and their K-9 partner, Axe, from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, learning about their duties and watching a live demonstration of their impressive training.
The lessons learned through the L.E.A.D. program will undoubtedly serve these graduates as they continue their middle school education and beyond. Congratulations to the L.E.A.D. Class of 2026—we look forward to welcoming next year's class to the program!
