🚲 New E-Bike Rules Take Effect July 2026 🚲

If you ride an e-bike or motorized bicycle in New Jersey, important changes are coming.

Beginning July 2026, New Jersey law S4834/A6235 requires:
✅ Riders must be at least 15 years old
✅ A license or permit is required - MVC-issued e-bike license or permit for ages 15-16, valid driver's license for ages 17+
✅ Registration is required for all e-bikes and motorized bicycles
✅ Insurance is required for Motorized Bicycles (throttle-capable, assisted speeds over 20 MPH but no more than 28 MPH)

Safety Rules include:
⚠️ Helmets are required for all riders
⚠️ No sidewalk parking
⚠️ No speed modification kits
⚠️ Riders must follow all Title 39 laws for bicycles

🌟 Good news: Registration, licensing and examination fees will be waived during the first year.

E-Bike Classifications:
🔹 Low-Speed E-Bikes (pedal assist only, assistance ends at 20 mph) – registration required
🔹 Motorized Bicycles/Higher-Speed E-Bikes (throttle capable or assisted speeds above 20 mph up to 28 mph) – registration and insurance required
