Eatontown Public Schools hosted two federally-funded family involvement opportunities during the month of January. On January 14, 2020 the ESL Department held its second Bilingual Parent Advisory Council (BPAC) Meeting. The BPAC is a committee of parents of our bilingual students who meet to discuss the needs of their students. The agenda for this meeting included ways the parents can support their students at home with Google classroom, an overview of Genesis and how to utilize it, future testing dates and the importance of the tests, and how parents can communicate with faculty using the Talking Points app. Students from the National Junior Honor Society at Memorial School were on hand to play games and color with the students while their parents attended the meeting. If any parent was not able to make the meeting but is looking for more information about the meeting, please contact the ESL teachers in each school.

On January 23, 2020, a Family STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) night was held at Memorial School for students in grades 5-8. The theme of the night was Winter Olympic Sports. The night began with dinner in our Memorial School All Purpose Room. Students designed snowboards, skis, and bobsleds and raced them down “mountains.” Students also created curling stones and tried to slide them to a target on the tables. Teachers and Memorial School NJHS members were on hand to help our families complete the exercises.

We would love for you to join us at the following upcoming Family Nights. On March 4, 2020, we will be having a District Family Literacy Night at Memorial School. Families will be treated to a Dr. Seuss themed breakfast for dinner, and then attend different classrooms to participate in age-appropriate literacy activities. On March 31, 2020, we will be having a STEM night at Woodmere School for our families in Grades Pre-K to 4. The International Fashion Show and Bake Sale will be on April 22, 2020 at Memorial School. If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact Mrs. Brooke Mindnich at Meadowbrook School.

Lastly, we are in the process of creating a District Family Advisory Council (DFAC). Members of the DFAC will meet three times each year to work with the administration to engage as meaningful partners in the educational process. DFAC members will share input on upcoming ESSA policies and best practices, discuss parent perspectives on ESSA funded programs, and be involved in the planning, review and improvement of the ESSA funded programs. If you would like to be part of the Eatontown Public Schools’ District Family Advisory Council, please reach out to Mrs. Micciulla by email at tmicciulla@eatontown.org.
