Recently, during Mrs. Luciano and Ms. D'Alessio's second grade literacy lesson, “Things That Go Places,” students experienced an exciting STEM infusion that brought the story to life. After reading the story together and discussing different objects that move and how they travel, students worked collaboratively in small groups to design and build their own moving object.

Each group received a predetermined bag of materials and was challenged to create something that “goes places.” Students applied their understanding of the text while engaging in hands-on problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. Through discussion, planning, building, and sharing, students are able to deepen their understanding of how things move, proving that literacy and STEM are powerful partners in learning.
