Trees

Our preschool explorers have just completed their exciting Tree study, and what a wonderful journey of discovery it has been! Using The Creative Curriculum, students learned through hands-on investigation, playful exploration, and thoughtful conversations.

Throughout the study, our young scientists observed trees near our playground, learned different parts of the trees, compared different trunk sizes, what trees need to grow, and what animals live in the trees. They answered curious questions and worked together to find answers through books, engaging experiments, and nature walks.

Students in Ms. Elmes’ class connected their Tree Study to real-world experiences by learning about woodworking with Mr. Arthur, a member of our Buildings and Grounds staff. He shared his experiences as a carpenter. Mr. Arthur introduced students to the tools he uses, how to learn more about this skill, and demonstrated how to shave a wood plank using a block plane, a process the students found fascinating.

Mrs. Stewart’s class enjoyed a special visit from our friends at the Arbor Commission during the study. Our young learners proudly shared what they discovered about trees, then headed outdoors to collect leaves. It was a fun and educational experience for everyone!

As we concluded this curriculum unit, students shared what they learned with their families with a classroom celebration. They worked with their loved ones making tree and leaf crafts, shared what they learned over the past few weeks and shared a delicious snack together.

Trees kicked off our curriculum this year and now our preschoolers are on to the wheels study. We can’t wait to see what they learn next!

We still have preschool spots available in our program! If you are an Eatontown resident and interested in our preschool, please contact preschool@eatontown.org or 732-935-3325.
