Dear Eatontown School Community Member:

Beginning Wednesday, June 2nd, in-person learning students will no longer need to complete the Genesis Tool for Self-Monitoring of COVID-19 Symptoms before arriving to school each day. In addition, temperature checks will no longer be required for all students, but will be used on an as-needed basis if a student is suspected to be ill. As a school community, we all need to be aware of the symptoms of COVID-19 and contact the school nurses if you have any questions or concerns.

As a reminder, COVID-19 symptoms may include:

  • A fever of 100.4° or greater
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Fatigue
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

If your child has a fever or feels ill, please call the school nurse and keep your child home from school. Please note that at this time, students and staff are still required to wear face coverings both inside and outside of school.

One important guideline that has not changed is the definition for a direct contact. The CDC and NJDOH still abide by the by the direct contact definition which states, “Someone who was within six feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more of a 24-hour period starting two days before the illness onset.” The district’s goal remains to keep students and staff in school on a consistent basis. Studies by the CDC have shown that face coverings can block 50% to 70% of fine droplets and particles and limit the forward spread of those particles that are not captured.

These changes in protocol are reflective of improving COVID-19 numbers and levels for our area, guidance from our school physician and school nurses, and a very low case rate in our schools. If conditions change, our response may change as well.

Please remember that the success of our plan requires the cooperation of parents, students, and staff.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Scott T. McCue
Superintendent of Schools
