Developing a High-Quality Learning Culture for All Students

Change can be challenging for large organizations, especially schools. Many of us have attended schools in the past which provides us with a perspective on how schools should operate as well as what the educational goals for students should be. Our values, beliefs, and assumptions influence our attitudes about what high-quality teaching and high-quality learning look like for all students. The use of the phrase ALL Students is intentional here.

As an educational institution, fostering a love for learning for students and staff is our primary goal. Through collaboration, our school community develops expectations, recommendations, and policies to guide learning. However, our daily practices are the most important difference maker in supporting ALL Students and their learning. Each of us plays a critical role in shaping the learning path for our students from administrators to teachers to support staff to parents and caregivers. We must begin studying the impact of our instructional practices used in our schools, classrooms, and homes more carefully in the future.

During the 2025-2026 school year, our district infrastructure was changed to support ALL Students. First, the district hired English Language Arts and Mathematics Coaches for each school to enhance teaching and learning throughout our district. Second, two additional English Language Learner (ELL) teachers were employed this year to provide an ELL teacher at every school. In the fall, a Student and Family Support Coordinator position was created to provide additional educational resources for students and their families. The district’s Enrichment/Gifted and Talented Program was enhanced through the creation of a full-time Gifted and Talented teacher whose time is shared among all four schools. Finally, additional mathematics support was provided to expand opportunities for ALL Students to access advanced mathematics such as Algebra in the future.

Looking forward to the 2026-2027 school year, Eatontown Public Schools will continue to advance learning opportunities for its students through extracurricular activities, improvements to the schools’ master schedules, and research into innovative, evidence-based practices to develop students’ passion and proficiency for learning. The school community will continue to be asked to share its voice in this important work through its participation in School Equity Team meetings, surveys, family education nights, and other school meetings.

Have a safe and fun summer. We look forward to the new possibilities ahead as we work together to develop equitable practices that serve ALL Students.
